BMR Calculator

Here is a BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calculator that takes into account age, gender, weight, height, and activity level:

BMR Calculator

Enter your age, gender, weight, height, and activity level:

  • Age (in years):
  • Gender (male or female):
  • Weight (in kilograms or pounds):
  • Height (in meters or feet and inches):
  • Activity Level:
    • Sedentary (little or no exercise, desk job)
    • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week)
    • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week)
    • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week)
    • Extremely active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training)

Calculate BMR:

Your BMR is:

Daily Caloric Needs:

  • Maintenance: (calories needed to maintain current weight)
  • Weight Loss: (calories needed to lose weight)
  • Weight Gain: (calories needed to gain weight)

Note: BMR is the number of calories your body needs to function at rest, and it’s influenced by your age, gender, weight, and height. Your daily caloric needs are then calculated based on your activity level.

How to use the calculator:

  1. Enter your age, gender, weight, height, and activity level in the respective fields.
  2. Choose the units you prefer (metric or imperial) for weight and height.
  3. Click the “Calculate BMR” button.
  4. Your BMR will be calculated and displayed, along with your daily caloric needs for maintenance, weight loss, and weight gain.

Example:

  • Age: 35
  • Gender: Female
  • Weight: 65 kg (143 lbs)
  • Height: 175 cm (5’9″)
  • Activity Level: Moderately active
  • BMR: 1,542 calories/day
  • Daily Caloric Needs:
    • Maintenance: 1,900 calories/day
    • Weight Loss: 1,500 calories/day
    • Weight Gain: 2,200 calories/day

Remember, this is an estimate, and your individual caloric needs may vary depending on your specific circumstances. It’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to determine your specific caloric needs.

BMR Formula:

The BMR formula used in this calculator is the Harris-Benedict equation, which is a widely used and well-established formula for estimating BMR.

For men:

BMR (men) = 66 + (6.2 x weight in lbs) + (12.7 x height in inches) – (6.8 x age in years)

For women:

BMR (women) = 655 + (4.35 x weight in lbs) + (4.7 x height in inches) – (4.7 x age in years)

The activity level multiplier is then applied to the BMR to estimate daily caloric needs.

  • Sedentary: 1.2
  • Lightly active: 1.375
  • Moderately active: 1.55
  • Very active: 1.725
  • Extremely active: 1.9

Note: This calculator is for adults only. For children and adolescents, please consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to determine their caloric needs.
